Mission Stardust (1967)

Image
The spherical Bellatrixian warships drop into strategic positions. From the bridge of the Chrysoar, Fleet Admiral Antiope appears on viewscreens across the Terranean Union with a simple demand. 'Hand over the criminal Nebuleena, or it's war!'  The young Terranean President's reply is quick and definitive.  'You were seen capturing her ship, we thought you had her. We'd gladly hand her over if we knew where she was.' You jerk! thinks Nebuleena, standing on the bridge behind Antiope disguised in an Amazon uniform. I thought we had something, President Spiro . Half an hour later, the sabotaged Chrysoar is spinning like a top, the water supply to Antiope's bath has been rerouted through the galley's tank of Skyllan eels, and Nebuleena is blasting out of the Chrysoar 's hanger in the Silver Swift . Nebuleena smiles at the thought of Fleet Admiral Antiope lowering herself into a foaming bath full of Skyllan elvers. She activates the stardrive, and ...

Destination Inner Space (1966)

Image
The scaly, webbed digited girl was scared, lost and being threatened with being filleted by locals when Nebuleena found her on Callisto Spacedock. She must have crept aboard a freighter out of curiosity. Nebuleena rarely does anything bad to anyone good, but rarer still does anything without pay. But the Ran system is only a twenty light year round trip, and the tears in the frightened girl's frog-like eyes would've moved the coldest of hearts. Since then, on the ocean planet Skylla, they've fought off mega-squid, had to escape enslavement to sharkmen, been caught in a violent tempest, and got the cargo hold waterlogged. Still, when she found the girl's grateful family, they paid her well. There are crates of fish all over the Silver Swift . Nebuleena puts a peg on her nose, activates the stardrive, and the Silver Swift leaves the Ran system behind. In folded space, time and space mingle, and a journey of light years can be achieved in hours. There are signals here, t...

Queen of Blood (1966)

Image
A slave uprising on Stheno, the restoration  of the royal family of the hated Hyadean Empire, countless minor infractions within the Bellatrixian Empire, and this spaceship captain, Nebuleena, is always involved somehow. Athena, the Amazon queen of Bellatrix, has developed a niggling dislike for Nebuleena. Her Victorious Majesty has been personally setting traps for the Silver Swift all over the colonised systems. Finally, she had her in her grasp on the opulent vacation planet Cornucopia, but now Nebuleena has her trapped in the hold of the Silver Swift , screaming curses and swearing oaths of punishment. Nebuleena could hardly care less about the Amazon's comically crude attempts to capture her. She sits at the console, activates the stardrive, and the Silver Swift leaves the Capella system behind. In folded space, time and space mingle, and a journey of light years can be achieved in hours. There are signals here, too, leaked into space centuries ago and frozen in time; echoe...

Tropes - Flying Saucers

The Saucers Are Coming The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) On the afternoon of June 24th 1947, pilot Kenneth Arnold flew over the Cascade Mountains not far from Mount Rainier in a CallAir A-2 utility aircraft. The sky was clear, and Arnold had detoured to search for a missing transport plane. He failed to find it and, to my knowledge, it's never been found. What Arnold did observe had a profound cultural impact. Mysterious flashes of light alerted Arnold to nine objects flying erratically and at great speed to his left. Arnold is reported to have described the objects he saw that day in various ways, but not usually as circular. He said the objects were crescent shaped, or bat-shaped. The way he assessed their flight , however, was as being like a saucer if you skip it across water. Kenneth Arnold's sighting is viewed as the beginning of the modern UFO phenomenon. Regardless of whether that's so, people have always seen strange things in the sky. Even depictions of dis...
